The variant is believed to be the dominant strain of coronavirus in Bolton, which continues to have the highest infection rate in the country.
While B.1.617.2 has been found in the borough, Tameside's Covid rate is a long way behind Bolton, and it continues to have one of the lowest infection rates in Greater Manchester.
But with the new variant in circulation at the same time as the latest easing of lockdown measures, Tameside's health bosses are keen to make sure residents keep safe.
