A total of 149,253 people tested positive for Covid-19 in England at least once in the week to November 4, according to the latest Test and Trace figures.
This is the highest weekly number since Test and Trace was launched at the end of May and is an increase of 8% in positive cases on the previous week.
The ailing system, which has faced damning criticism, showed a small improvement on its ability to get in contact with people who could have been exposed.
But it is still well below the level which experts say it needs to perform at in order to help control the virus properly. Some 60.4% of close contacts of people who tested positive for Covid-19 in England were reached in the week ending November 4.
