21 Covid-19 deaths in week to last Tuesday, according to HPSC report

There were 21 Covid-19 deaths in the week to last Tuesday, according to a new report today from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

The average age of the deaths was 80 years. All the 21 deaths had a date of death in the week to last Tuesday. So far in October, there have been 16 deaths linked to the disease.

The vaccination status of these recent deaths is not available at this time. It brings the total number of people who have died in Ireland to 5,280.

Over 86% of these had underlying conditions. Over 94% of deaths were confirmed as being due to Covid-19. The remaining deaths are classified as either probably due to Covid-19, or possibly due to the disease.
