It’s official: Staying inside means that Americans are watching more TV than ever. According to the Hollywood Reporter, since the week of March 9, kids ages 2 to 11 are watching 14% more television than they did before the global coronavirus pandemic forced families to hunker down at home.
Kids ages 12 to 17 are viewing 18% more, while Nielsen data indicates that adults are watching 5% more. The week of March 16 had an even sharper jump, with a 14% increase in live TV, a 35% spike in game console use and a 28% increase in connected device usage, or streaming.
