The General Secretary of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has said any attempt to introduce a law for gardaí to enter private dwellings is "fraught with difficulties", and that they do not see how it could be practically implemented by their members.
Speaking on RTÉ's This Week programme, Antoinette Cunningham said the entering of a person's private home can only be done under the strictest of conditions in accordance with law and usually under warrant.
She said there is an unrealistic expectation placed on their membership through public commentary, but no thought is given to the final piece of it, which is how it is enforced.
