NEW DELHI: Xiaomi, Apple, Samsung, Vivo and Realme have hiked prices of some of smartphones after the higher 18% GST tax rate came into effect from today.
Prices have been raised on both older and new smartphones. The earlier GST rate was 12%. The rates were revised as the GST Council, the apex decision-making body on fixing rates, attempted to correct the inverted duty structure in the smartphone industry as the GST on smartphones was 12% while on phone components it was 18%.
Apple’s iPhone 11 now starts at ₹68,300 instead of ₹64,900. Similarly, iPhone 11 Pro models now start at ₹1,06,600 instead of ₹1,01,200.
