There have been calls for a walk-in testing centre to be opened in Cavan after a meat processing facility in the town closed for a week.
It is understood McCarren Meats told employees it was temporarily ceasing operations in response to an outbreak of Covid-19.
The company is a part of the Kepak group and employs over 250 people on the site. Employees were told that to ensure the health and safety of all employees a decision had been made to close the factory for this week.
Kepak has yet to comment. Local Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith and former minister for agriculture said in light of the development, he has asked the HSE to consider a walk-in testing centre in Cavan.
