Carlisle faces threat of local lockdown after rise in Covid-19 infections

Covid-19 infections continues to increase, public health chiefs in England have warned. Data released on Friday shows there were 18 new cases per 100,000 residents in Carlisle in the week ending July 3, compared with eight new cases the week before.

More data shows that from July 1 to 7, there were 21 positive coronavirus cases in Carlisle district area, with just an additional 10 positive Covid-19 cases across the rest of Cumbria.

It comes after we reported how thirsty Scots travelled across the border to Carlisle and other parts of Cumbria last weekend to enjoy a pint.

Revellers headed south for a tipple and bite to eat on what was dubbed Super Saturday as the easing of lockdown continued in England, ahead of Scotland.
