Alabama’s Orange Beach were suddenly visited by a group of hammerhead sharks over the weekend. A video recorded by Meredith Perry on June 10, showed about five hammerhead sharks swimming uncomfortably close to boaters, even prompting a few people who were wading in the shallow waters to jump back onto their boats. Perry also managed to get a photo of her fiance, Paul Hubble, standing in the water, attempting to get a closer look at the sharks. "At first it was a ‘hurry and get kids safe, etc.,’ but then I realized they were hammerheads and thought it would be cool to see how close I could get," Hubble told FOX TV Stations. The swimmer, identified as a 62-year-old man from Utah, was swimming on Sunday approximately 200 yards offshore when a shark bit his left hand, according to a statement from the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources.While trying to fight off the shark, the man felt another bite behind his left knee, the statement added.The swimmer proceeded to call out for help and was able to swim to a nearby vessel, whose crew took him to shore, officials said. The Hawaii County Fire Department met him on shore and took him to North Hawai‘i Community Hospital.

California bill would regulate police use of facial recognition technology in body cams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A California assemblyman introduced a new bill to set parameters for how and when law enforcement officers can use facial recognition technology in body cameras."Rather than have every agency come up with their own set of standards, every jurisdiction do their own thing, we’re really proud to do something statewide," said Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco).Currently, there are no statewide restrictions on facial recognition technology, because Ting’s previous bill sunset in January of this year. Signed in 2019, the bill placed a three-year-ban on the technology.The ban faced stiff opposition from law enforcement groups."Across the country, real world examples of law enforcement using facial recognition technology to solve major crimes showcases just how important this technology can be towards protecting our communities," said San Leandro police Chief Abdul Pridgen.Pridgen is also a member of the California Police Chiefs Association. CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A subway rider is grateful to be alive and well after escaping harm when a ceiling panel fell inside a train station.
