Union bosses have urged frontline doctors fearing for their lives against performing CPR on virus patients unless they have adequate PPE, it is claimed.
The Daily Telegraph reports the Health Consultants and Specialists Association (HCSA) has put pressure on Public Health England to change its guidance, which says such lifesaving measures can be performed with lower grade protection.
It comes as a survey found one in four GPs has seen Covid-19 patients face to face without adequate protective equipment. The latest guidance from leading authority the Resuscitation Council UK considers CPR an aerosol-generating procedure (AGP) where a patient is exhaling infectious droplets - meaning medics need the top grade of PPE.
