The Government has asked councils across England to get roughsleepers off the streets by the weekend to slow the spread of Covid-19.
In an unprecedented move, ministers have written to local authorities asking them to house all people sleeping rough, and those in hostels and night shelters, by the weekend.
Councils across the country have moved rapidly to try and find places to house homeless people - with London taking up a large number of hotel rooms.
In a letter sent to homelessness managers and rough sleeping coordinators in every local authority yesterday, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, said: “ As you know, this is a public health emergency.
