Canada’s chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam said on Tuesday there were now 17,063 cases of COVID-19 and 345 deaths in total in the country as of Tuesday.

She said as an additional measure to prevent the spread. only non-medical masks should be worn and it can help prevent the spread of droplets especially in areas where physical distancing isn’t possible, such as in public transit.

Tam added that wearing a mask is only an addition to proper hand hygiene, and social distancing should still be practiced. She warned that masks should not be worn by children under two, people with breathing difficulties or those who can’t remove the mask by themselves as they can present a suffocation risk..
