Millions will be placed under the toughest Covid-19 rules from today, as changes to tiers kick in. The changes, announced on Thursday, are the last to take place before Christmas.
But they'll be reviewed again in two weeks, with changes expected to kick in on New Year's Day. Some 5.3 million people will be moved into Tier 3 from today.
In total, more than two-thirds of England is now in Tier 3. No10 said 906,000 people will be in Tier 1 (2% of the population), just over 17million in Tier 2 (30%), and just over 38million in Tier 3 (68%).
Announcing the changes in the House of Commons on Thursday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock told MPs: "As we enter the coldest months we must be vigilant and keep this virus under control. "Yesterday 25,161
