Children of key workers are reportedly being turned away from the school gates today - the first working day after they closed their doors to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
The Department for Education urged parents to keep their kids at home unless their work is deemed "critical" to the country's response to Covid-19 and they have no other childcare option.
They released a list of who was classed as one of these 'key workers'. But teachers had prepared themselves for a "challenging" situation amid concerns more pupils than expected could turn up this morning.
Parents were warned they could be in for "difficult conversations" if they took their children to school when they have an alternative means of ensuring they are looked after.
