Covid-19: 3,428 cases reported with 478 in hospital

The Department of Health has been notified of 3,428 new cases of Covid-19. As of 8 o'clock this morning there were 478 patients with the virus in hospital, which is 34 more than yesterday.

The number in ICU has risen by one to 75. 'Just roll it out as fast as possible' Meanwhile, a professor of immunovirology at University College Cork has said vaccine boosters have a role to play in slowing down transmission of Covid-19, and should be rolled out to everyone as fast as possible.

Prof Liam Fanning said the rollout of booster vaccinations should have begun six weeks ago and be authorised for use by now in the over 40s.
