Spain's death toll from the coronavirus epidemic soared on Saturday to 1,326 from 1,002 on Friday, according to the country's Health Ministry latest data.
The number of registered cases in the country rose to 24,926 on Saturday from 19,980 in the previous tally announced on Friday.
Spain is now among the top four worst-hit countries in the world, with the figures growing as the country steps up its capacity for testing.
Over the past seven days, the number of deaths has risen ten-fold, the figures show. Madrid and Barcelona announced they would set up field hospitals in their biggest exhibition halls to deal with the anticipated growth in the number of patients.
