Decision expected today on AstraZeneca approval in EU

Today we will learn whether or not a third vaccine will be approved for use in Europe. The vaccine from AstraZeneca could add another weapon to our arsenal in this fight against Covid-19.

But as a row continues between the manufacturer and the European Commission about supply and delivery commitments, questions about how well the vaccine works, and for which groups, still have to be answered.

The HSE said at it's weekly briefing yesterday that it will listen to the decision from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) after a German vaccination committee recommended the AstraZeneca vaccine should not be used in people aged over 65.
