The managing director of Dealgan House Nursing Home in Dundalk, Co Louth has confirmed the deaths of 23 residents at the home since 1 April, many of which he says were Covid-19 related.
In a statement Eoin Farrelly said all of the staff at the home are heartbroken by the deaths of people "whom we got to know and love" over many years.
He said that while not forgetting those who have passed away, the emphasis now is on "extinguishing the outbreak" at the nursing home.
Mr Farrelly said he believes it is under control with no new Covid-19 cases at the home for more than 14 days. He said there is also a focus on providing "great care to our residents and trying to normalise life for them to the extent the public health measures allow".
