From today, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will no longer allow new benefits or State Pension claimants to collect payments using a Post Office Card Account (POCA).

However, any new claims submitted from Monday, May 11 where a person is unable to access a bank account can be made using the HMG Payment Exception Service, said Work and Pensions Secretary, Thérèse Coffey.Around 900,000 people across the UK use POCA to collect payments, but over the last three years the DWP has been writing to claimants and encouraging them to have benefits and pensions paid directly into their bank accounts, reports Express.co.uk.
