Treating patients is emotionally challenging but there is lots of support out there for NHS staff. In my case, when I get home I’m thrown in at the deep end with the kids so I’m distracted and that helps take my mind off everything. That and a nice cup of tea!
Pete recently said my biggest worry is him getting coronavirus. He’s not in the at-risk group, but I would never want to take risks with him.
I’m careful with the kids, too – especially after work. Before, I would wear my own clothes to work but now I wear scrubs. I get changed before I leave work and I have a shower when I get home.
I also wash the clothes I’ve changed into. But you have to get the balance right between taking precautions and not letting it take over your whole life..
