England's first "Covid-secure" marshals have hit the streets - but they've been pictured without masks while patrolling pavements.
Photos show the new marshals without face coverings in Camborne and Penzance in Cornwall, and video released in July shows one not wearing a mask inside a takeaway, when they weren't yet compulsory.
Their tasks include handing out masks and hand sanitiser in public places, and telling pedestrians to follow one-way systems, but they will have no formal powers and must be paid for by local authorities.
Police officers are "absolutely baffled" about the role and powers of the marshals, who were announced as part of Boris Johnson's plan to enforce stricter rules on social gatherings.
