Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA  (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Labour councillors press Boris Johnson to extend coronavirus furlough scheme

More than 1,100 councillors across the country have backed the Mirror's jobs campaign. Our Keep Britain Working fight, which supports former Prime Minister Gordon Brown's Alliance for Full Employment drive, was launched last week to protect employees and help the economy bounce back from the coronavirus recession.

Now, local leaders have thrown their weight behind the battle. Some 1,150 Labour councillors have written to Boris Johnson urging him to rethink plans to scrap the furlough scheme next month(OCT) and target support at worst-hit industries to prevent mass unemployment.
