The UK has been experiencing a steady rise in recorded coronavirus infections. On Thursday, a three-month high of 1,735 daily cases was recorded.
But many new cases are in specific hotspots, with large swathes of northern England still covered by local lockdown. Indeed Bolton, the new town with the highest rate in the country, recorded 220 cases in the week up to August 31, while there were also hundreds in Bradford, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham.
But the latest data shows there were five local authorities in England that reported no cases at all in the last week. There were zero infections in Gosport, Hants, Torridge in North Devon, Rother in East Sussex, West Devon, and Chesterfield, Derbys.
