Ayrshire & Arran has today announced the acquisition of East Ayrshire Community Hospital (EACH) in a £12 million deal. The hospital had been owned by Cumnock SPV Limited (and Cumnock SPV Holdings Limited), who also operated the hospital following a Public Finance Initiative (PFI) contract since August 2000.

East Ayrshire Community Hospital had originally been procured through one of the first PFI health contracts in Scotland. The acquisition of the company, including all its building assets, from BAM PPP, has been fully funded by the Scottish Government.The deal allows the ownership of the facility and property interests to be secured in advance of the end of the existing PFI contract in August 2025.

Covid-19 infections in the country so far, with Delhi accounting for 109 such deaths, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) said on Thursday.The latest data revealed by the IMA shows that nearly every second doctor who died in the second Covid-19 wave died either in New Delhi (over a sixth of the total fatalities), Bihar (96) and Uttar Pradesh (79).As many as 748 doctors had died of coronavirus across the country in the first wave of the pandemic, the IMA said.Meanwhile, India on Thursday recorded 1,34,154 new cases of coronavirus in a span of 24 hours, taking the country's infection tally to 2,84,41,986.India's active caseload has further declined to 17,13,413.

U.K. changes its vaccine strategy to combat COVID-19 Delta variant. Should Canada follow?
United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson said there was no reason to delay reopening the economy on Tuesday, as the country races to fully vaccinate all adults in an effort to quell the rapid spread of the Delta COVID-19 variant.The Delta variant, which is a more transmissible strain of COVID-19 first identified in India, is quickly becoming the more dominant strain in Britain. Officials said the variant accounts for up to three-quarters of newly reported cases as parts of the country undergo a surge in infections, leading to 3,165 confirmed cases on Wednesday.As several provinces begin reopening, some experts say Canada could stand to tweak its vaccination campaign to give high-risk Canadians their second doses faster.
