A 'high risk' prisoner attacked a guard with a metal bar during a disturbance inside jail, a court heard Kyle Shaw, 27, formerly of Eccles, grabbed the 12-inch long weapon and started waving it and banging it on metal railings after reacting badly to a meeting with prison officials.

It led to a number of officers having to arm themselves with batons and shields to try and calm him down, Derbyshire Live reports.

But he struck out with the bar, which hit the head and arm of the victim. It took half a dozen guards to finally subdue Shaw and restore order at Lowdham Grange Prison in Nottinghamshire.

Due to his mental health condition a judge deemed him to be unfit to either enter a plea or face trial. Instead, a jury sitting at Derby Crown
