Each death is a tragedy, and it's hard not to feel pulled down by the sadness, fear and anxiety of it all. But there is hope to be found in some of the remarkable tales of recovery in our region.
A number of elderly people, considered to be the most at risk, have defied the odds and fought off the virus. Great-grandmother Rita Reynolds, 99, is one of those extraordinary patients.
In fact Rita, from Bramhall Stockport, is one of the oldest people in the UK to have recovered from coronavirus. Rita fell ill on March 25 and tested positive for the virus.
