An increase in transmission was expected after the easing of lockdown restrictions last month - and case rates in all regions of England have duly increased.
But the latest weekly surveillance report from Public Health England shows the North West has been worst hit, with 87.4 cases per 100,000 people, up from 53.7.
And in Greater Manchester, where the rate is higher than this regional average in Bolton, Salford, Bury, Stockport, Wigan, Manchester and Rochdale, the data shows
