HSE to monitor social media after cyber attack

The HSE said that it is taking very seriously any potential publication of patient data after it confirmed yesterday that information related to 522 patients had been published on the Dark Web by the group that launched the cyber-attack on its IT systems two weeks ago.

It said it is continuing to monitor social media for any further data breaches, although it is not aware yet of further attempts to publish such sensitive information.

The HSE confirmed yesterday that data from the dark web purporting to be about HSE patients and referred to by the Financial Times in a report ten days ago, was indeed real information about 520 of its patients.
