The Chief Executive of Women's Aid has said there has been an increase in the number of calls to the charity. Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Sean O'Rourke, Sarah Benson said that domestic abuse is always frightening to live with, but at the moment there is an increase in fear.
She said that because of the Covid-19 pandemic people are being told to stay at home, however for those living with domestic violence and abuse it is now the least safest place to be. "People are being required to stay there under very constrained circumstances", she said. "We have seen an increase in calls and the content has been very distressing.
