India’s cabinet secretary denies lockdown’ extension

NEW DELHI : Cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba on Monday denied that India’s three-week country-wide lock down to coronavirus (covid-19) outbreak will be extended. “There are rumours & media reports, claiming that the Government will extend the #Lockdown21 when it expires.

The Cabinet Secretary has denied these reports, and stated that they are baseless," Press Information Bureau said in a tweet on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the 21-day lock down to stem the spread of highly contagious virus, before it triggers community transmission.

This comes in the backdrop of India facing a humanitarian crisis with thousands of migrant workers on the roads. The situation is particularly bad in India’s six largest metros -- Delhi, Mumbai,
