Kate Garraway has shared that when her husband Derek Draper was hospitalised with coronavirus he was found to have a rare brain inflammation.

The Good Morning Britain host, 53, has written about her husband's health struggles in her new book, The Power of Hope, after Derek spent over a year in hospital battling coronavirus.

Metro reports that scans of her husband's brain showed areas like "fluffy white clouds floating in the top part of his head" which concerned doctors who initially thought that they could be clots or bleeds on the brain.

It was explained to Kate that clots or bleeds on the brain could occur when patients are put on ECMO, a type of life support machine.
