Labour leadership frontrunner Sir Keir Starmer will ditch Jeremy Corbyn’s allies if he wins, it is claimed. He is said to be planning to give the party a fresh start after its disastrous election showing last December.

Hard-left shadow cabinet members and Mr Corbyn’s key lieutenants in the party’s HQ will reportedly be purged under the takeover plans.

The party is set to announce its new leader on Saturday, with Sir Keir widely tipped for victory. He is expected to shake up the front bench by appointing a fresh shadow cabinet.

And he is said to be plotting the departure of Karie Murphy, Mr Corbyn’s chief of staff, and the party’s general secretary Jennie Formby.
