GEORGETOWN, De. - A small Delaware airport was flooded on Tuesday with state leaders and local non-profit organizations in preparation for a possible plane full of migrants being sent from Texas. Delaware Costal Airport in Georgetown was reportedly the latest destination for migrants being shipped by southern Republican governors to northern Blue states. This comes just days after Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent two buses with about 100 migrants to Vice President Kamala Harris' residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington D.C.Some who were at the airport on Tuesday believe that the sending migrants northbound is part of a political stunt being carried out by Republican leaders ahead of the midterm elections. MORE ON IMMIGRATION"They’re using our people for political stunts, It’s just sad and tragic," Rossana Arteaga-Lopenza from non-profit Casa de Venezuela Delaware told FOX 29. Earlier this year, Abbott announced new directives as part of the state's border security efforts, including an order that directs the Texas Division of Emergency Management to charter buses of migrants to Washington D.C. Philadelphia officials began preparing to receive buses of migrants if Abbott targeted the city, but Delaware, where President Joe Biden grew up and attended college, looks to be the next destination.The normally quiet runway at Delaware Costal Airport was abuzz on Tuesday amid reports of a possible plane full of migrants from Texas.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Delaware State Police say they are investigating the death of an inmate over the weekend at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown. Police say detectives and the Department of Correction are investigating the death of an inmate that occurred on Saturday. The inmate’s body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science where police say an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. The inmate’s identity is expected to be released after next of kin are notified and police say further details will be released as they become available.

Delaware State Police arrest 50-year-old Richard Cook for his 8th DUI offense.  GEORGETOWN, Del. - Delaware State Police arrested a man and charged him with his eighth DUI offense after a crash on Monday. On April 11, just before 3:00 p.m., state troopers responded to an accident in Georgetown, Del. Police say when they arrived to the scene, they found a black Nissan Quest, which had overturned onto its side in a wooded area near Dupont Boulevard. Police say Richard Cook, 50, was behind the wheel and two passengers, a 49-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, both sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Bayhealth Sussex Hospital. Police conducted a DUI investigation and took Cook in to custody at the scene. After searching Cook's vehicle, police say they found 2.04 grams of marijuana, suspected liquid heroin, drug paraphernalia, 2 fixed-knife blades, and a firearm. Authorities learned that Cook's driver's license was suspended, and he had been convicted for seven prior DUI offenses. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, and other related offenses. Cook was committed on a $39,501 cash bond.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Delaware police say two men were fatally shot inside a restaurant during an altercation with two masked people who had entered the establishment. State police say it happened early Saturday evening at the El Nopalito Restaurant in Georgetown. A 28-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, while the 31-year-old was pronounced dead at a local hospital. No arrests had been made early Sunday. Police say the two suspects had been part of a group that had been asked to leave the restaurant earlier due to disorderly behavior. Authorities say the suspects returned later.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Delaware fire officials say a man was critically injured in a fire at a homeless encampment in Georgetown. The News Journal reported that the State Fire Marshal’s office said firefighters called to a vegetation fire in the woods at the end of Douglas Street on Monday found a 37-year-old man badly burned and a nearby campsite on fire. The man was taken to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvania, where he was listed in critical condition. Deputy fire marshals are investigating the cause and origin of the fire, as well as how the victim was burned.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Authorities in Delaware have charged a man who was allegedly driving impaired when he refused to stop for a state trooper and slammed into his cruiser while trying to evade police.Delaware State Police said 23-year-old Victor E. Cruz was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Jetta that sped up closely behind a trooper on Hardscrabble Road just before midnight on Thursday. Police said Cruz had his high beams on while tailgating the trooper which forced the officer to switch lanes.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Authorities in Delaware have opened a homicide investigation after a Maryland man was found shot dead near his car on a rural road in Sussex County.Delaware State Police responded to Old Furnace Road around 5:30 p.m. Friday for reports of a shooting.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Police are searching for a driver after a Pennsylvania man was struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Sussex County.Delaware State Police report a 41-year-old Lancaster man was walking opposite of traffic on the west side of East Trap Pond Road around 6 p.m.Police said the victim was struck when a car traveling east attempted to pass the car in front of it by using the westbound lane. According to police, the car did not stop after striking the man.He was airlifted to an area hospital in critical condition. Police believe the striking vehicle is a white 4-door Nissan Altima with a Delaware registration.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - A Delaware man has been accused of assaulting a police K-9 and striking a patrol car with his vehicle after troopers attempted to get him to stop his car.Troopers attempted the traffic stop Saturday in Millsboro on suspicion that Dwayne Wiltbank Jr. was driving under the influence, Delaware State Police said in a news release.Officials said he failed to stop and a chase ensued.

Marroquinn is alleged to have shot an acquaintance in the head near Garden Circle in Georgetown on February 4.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Authorities say a 2-year-old boy who was abducted from Delaware by his mother in late-July has been found safe in California.According to police, the child was in the care of a family member after his mother, Angelina Lopez, was charged with child abuse. Lopez was only limited to supervised visits with the child.On July 25, authorities say Lopez arranged to stay with a cousin who was taking care of the child.
