SKYFOX over Vineland High School after a threat prompted a police investigation.  VINELAND, N.J. - Police departments in multiple southern New Jersey towns are investigating threats against schools that prompted lockdowns on Friday morning. In Toms River, police said they received a call regarding a "potential shooting" at Toms River North High School. Authorities say the school was locked down, but the call was later deemed to be an unfounded threat. Police are investigating it as a swatting incident, which occurs when a prank call is placed to draw a large police presence at a specified location. In Vineland, police say they are also investigating a threat. RELATED: 'A cry for help': Public safety officials, mental health experts weigh in on school threatsOfficers responded on scene and checked the school, saying no danger is present to the students and staff. Barnegat High School also received a threat Friday, according to police. Officials say officers responded to the building and found "no indications reports of anything occurring." Bengal Boulevard will remain closed as officers investigate. Surrounding schools in Barnegat were placed in a shelter-in-place status when the threat was reported. Schools in Barnegat are now under normal operations, but Stafford Township Schools have issued a shelter-in-place as a precaution. This is a developing story.

LAWRENCE, N.J. - A man convicted of first-degree murder in the death of a woman whose remains were found dismembered and set on fire at a South Jersey farm four years ago has been sentenced to life in prison.The Cumberland County prosecutor’s office said 57-year-old Dennis Parrish will be ineligible for parole for more than 63 years following Friday’s first-degree murder sentence in the July 2018 death of 32-year-old Tonya Cook.Authorities said Parrish killed Cook at his home before dismembering her body and setting her remains on fire in a field in Lawrence Township.RELATED COVERAGE:At trial, the defense argued that someone else murdered the victim.

PHILADELPHIA - A former Pennsylvania elementary school principal is facing charges after police say he peered into the windows of several South Jersey homes and even tried to force a woman into her bedroom.Danny McEaddy was arrested in August after investigators believe he spent 7 months looking into windows of homes around Sicklerville. The Upper Darby School District confirmed to FOX 29 that McEaddy was the principal at Hillcrest Elementary school. Investigators from the Winslow Township Police Department say in February McEaddy entered a woman's home and tried to force her into her bedroom, but got away before police arrived. In May, police say he returned to the home and peered into the window. McEaddy was arrested in August when police say he was caught peering into a home in Pitman Borough.

Police say they are investigating a double shooting that killed one man after a shootout erupted after a three-car accident in North Philadelphia.  PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured after a car accident turned into a deadly shootout during rush hour in North Philadelphia on Tuesday.At around 5:06 p.m., police say they responded to the 3600 block of Broad Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police say they located a 33-year-old man lying in the northbound lanes of Broad Street, suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. Police picked up the victim and took him to Temple Hospital where they say he was pronounced dead at 6:18 p.m.While investigating the scene, police say they also located a 38-year-old man who was suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

PHILADELPHIA - Meteorologist Kathy Orr went down to the Jersey Shore to check out the flooding and beach erosion after four days of battering waves. Luckily, forecasters say they are expecting the rain to slow down for the rest of the week. After a cold and rainy Tuesday, overnight temperatures will remain in the 40s and 50s. Scattered showers are expected on Wednesday, which forecasters are calling the "transition day," as the sun will break through the clouds, leading to a mild and dry Thursday. By the end of the week, temperatures will creep back up in to the 60s and 70s, giving the Lehigh Valley a break from lower-than-normal temperatures. A fall front will move through over the weekend as crisp and cool weather is expected, along with sunny skies. SEVEN-DAY FORECASTWEDNESDAY: Leftover showers.

WILDWOOD, N.J. - Hurricane Ian may have run its course through Florida, but the deadly storm isn't finished with the Jersey Shore just yet. Angry waves are tearing through sand dunes, causing major flooding across the New Jersey coast. The beach in Wildwood has narrowed since chunks of sand have been washed away in the surf.

EGG HARBOR TWP. N.J. - The relentless rain and wind made for a messy day down at the shore.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Flooding concerns became all too evident Sunday, as the remnants of Hurricane Ian flooded roads down the shore and some interior sections of Philadelphia suburbs.Route 40 into and out of Atlantic City was closed because of flooding. Some of the streets looked like rivers and water even towered high above storm drains.Route 30 out of Atlantic City was also closed for a period of time because of coastal flooding.Some roads were also reportedly underwater in Sea Isle City and Wildwood.Ocean, Atlantic, and Cape May Counties in New Jersey are still under a coastal flood warning.

PHILADELPHIA - A VMSC Emergency Medical Services paramedic and EMT left their homes in Lansdale, Pennsylvania Tuesday morning and are in route to Florida to help the communities that have been damaged by major Hurricane Ian.It's the first deployment for paramedic, Jay Hughes, who is alongside his fellow first responder, Rich Roberts. Hughes says he's never done anything like this before, but people need help, and he feels as if it's his duty to offer that help."It's all about helping people, right? That's kinda why we got into this," said Hughes.FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce spoke with Hughes and Roberts as they were on the road Tuesday afternoon.

WILDWOOD, N.J. - As Hurricane Fiona continues to churn miles offshore, forecasters are urging beachgoers to avoid the water during the first weekend of the Fall. The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Advisory in the wake of a powerful hurricane that bowled over Puerto Rico and neighboring islands. "With the risk of the rip currents and strong surf, we are really asking: Don't enter the ocean this weekend," North Wildwood Beach Patrol Chief Bill Ciavarelli said. The popular Jersey shore town is expecting hoards of people to celebrate the Irish Festival this weekend. MORE LOCAL HEADLINES"You want to sit on the beach with the sweatshirt on late September, hang out with family and friends, that’s fine we just don’t want to see you enter that ocean," Ciavarelli said. It will be tough for surfers to heed authorities warning, with the angry sea likely to produce tempting waves and swells. "This is the surf season – September and October –  because all the hurricanes come up the coast and give us a push," local surfer Mark Zee said. While the Wildwood beaches are unguarded, rescue crews will be on hand for emergency situations.

Joseph Devitis, 51, has been arrested and charged in a hit-and-run crash that killed a horse and injured a teenage girl.  (Franklin Township Police Department)FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - The driver accused of hitting a teenage girl riding her horse in Franklin Township last Thursday has been arrested and charged, police say. The teen, 14, was riding horseback on Monroeville Road when they were struck by a car, per police. PREVIOUS: Horse killed, South Jersey girl injured by fleeing car in hit-and-run, police sayThe horse died on the scene and the girl was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials. Police say they developed information that the suspect's car was at a residence on Buck Road near the border of Salem and Gloucester Counties. After executing a search warrant on the property Tuesday, detectives located the suspected vehicle hidden in a wooded area and they collected DNA evidence. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say Joseph Devitis, 51, of Salem County admitted that he was the driver of the vehicle on Wednesday. Devitis has been charged with assault by auto, endangering an injured victim, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, animal cruelty and related offenses.

MOORESTOWN, N.J. - Terrifying moments for a South Jersey woman when, she says, an intruder broke into her home while she was fast asleep, only waking up to an alert on her phone."I feel very violated. My entire family feels extremely violated," Jessica Goralski stated.Goralski, of Moorestown, New Jersey, recounts the real-life nightmare that unfolded around 2:30 Wednesday morning, when her mom woke up to an alert that an intruder was inside their North Stanwick Road home. The family of four jolted out of bed, horrified."She saw that the door was swung open.

SOMERSET COUNTY, N.J. - Police are asking for the public's help after they say a driver hit a teenager and a horse, then kept on driving.A 14-year-old girl from Sicklerville was riding on horseback on Monroeville Road in Franklin Township when they were both reportedly hit by a car.Police say the horse died on scene after being struck around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

OCEAN CITY, N.J. - A beloved Ocean City business announced that it will be closing its doors after nearly 100 years of serving the Jersey Shore. The people of Ocean City and well beyond it have patronized Wards Pastry on Asbury Avenue for 98 years, but the long-time owner is turning off the oven and saying an emotional farewell as he looks towards retirement."The memories of everything, you know? OCEAN CITY, N.J. - Among the many small businesses hammered during the COVID-19 pandemic, beach shops that thrive on a short window of opportunity to turn a profit are finally bouncing back. As thousands flocked to the shore for summer's unofficial last hurrah this Labor Day Weekend, shop owners reported crowds and profits that rivaled pre-pandemic levels. Wendy Barth of Separately Swimwear in Ocean City, New Jersey told FOX 29 that the bare spots on her shop walls are visible examples of a profitable summer. "It’s great to see everybody back out shopping and being here and feeling comfortable and yeah enjoying life again," one shopper told FOX 29's Ellen Kolodziej. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAt the nearby Shirt Shack, workers believe summer 2022 was one of their "best summers ever." "It was a little slow in the beginning because of the weather, but then it picked up great, and we had a great June, great July, it was really awesome," Iuliia Lobunets said. It's not only the financial benefit of larger crowds at the shore that had small business owners and workers excited this summer, but the return to normal everyone was waiting for."It was fantastic to see all the towns come back together, come back to life, so it’s great to see Ocean City such alive again," Courtney Wolf said.Jeffrey and Jacque Trucksess, who own a small business in Pennsylvania, know first hand what the shore town shops have been through and they're happy to see them weather the storm."I think the people are willing to go out and spend, we’re in a recession, we can’t really do anything about it, and we can either just be afraid or we can just enjoy," Jacque Trucksess said. 

OCEAN CITY, N.J. - What better way to wrap up the last long weekend of summer than racing to the finish line on a beach in New Jersey?Good weather held up long enough on Monday for beach goers and runners in Ocean City. The sun shined down on them as they crossed a finish line in an annual Labor Day race.Aquatic and Fitness Center supervisor Lisa Rumer, who helped organize the race, said she expected it to be a perfect running day.It's kind of that bittersweet feel to the end of Labor Day," Rumer said.

VOORHEES, N.J. - An outpouring of support in South Jersey for a beloved police officer recovering from emergency surgery. The officer is a familiar face to many in Voorhees.What began as a stomachache for a Voorhees police officer assigned the Early Childhood Center at Congregation Beth El turned out to be a lot more. He’s recovering in the hospital after major surgery and very missed."Orlando is beyond beloved here.

HARRISON TWP, N.J. - Harrison Township Fire Chief Matthew Cardile remembers exactly where he was when the powerful remnants of Hurricane Ida put his town in the crosshairs of a EF-3 tornado. "I never thought in 28 years of doing this business that I would see something like this," Cardile told FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce. "This is like something you see in the movies." Cardile captured the devastating scene from afar, recording the twister with 150 MPH winds and heavy rain as it bowled over a quiet community in Mullica Hill. He and other first responders immediately jumped into action to help victims who bore the brunt of the damage. The remnants of Hurricane Ida plowed over the Delaware Valley in late August of 2021.

On a quiet country road at the edge of Barrie, Ont., a makeshift memorial of bouquets tied to a wooden box with police tape drew mourners to the area where six young adults — many of them athletes — were killed in a crash over the weekend.

OCEAN CITY, N.J. - For a change, the ocean water is warm down at the Jersey shore.It's so warm, it set a record in Atlantic City, where the water temperature soared to the mid-80s on Thursday and early Friday. This weekend, your Weather Authority says to plan for ocean water in the upper 70s.The water is much, much warmer for a few reasons.South and east of our shores, the Atlantic Ocean has been much warmer than average for a while.Usually, 80-degree ocean water stops around the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. - Disturbing finds in multiple South Jersey communities as hateful messages are left on people’s driveways. Those who found the messages say they’re disgusted.That hate has no home in their neighborhoods.Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance video of the incidents to give them a call.Megan Bristow stated, "We were disturbed."A disgusting find in at least three South Jersey communities in the last week, as anti-Semitic flyers were found on people’s properties."One of the kids ran out and said, ‘There’s a bag in our driveway.’ It was a bag of corn with this pamphlet in it," Bristow said.Bristow, of Camden County, says they received the flyer early Sunday morning. Her neighbor, Michael Brown, got one, too.

BRIGANTINE, N.J. - A city littered with hateful messages has sparked an investigation into who is responsible for the shocking discovery.Police say bags of anti-Semitic flyers were thrown onto several properties throughout Brigantine late Sunday night into early Monday morning.No threats were found on the flyers, and police say no specific houses or businesses appear to be targeted."Consistent with anti-Semitic flyers that news outlets have reported as having been distributed in similar manners throughout the United States in recent weeks," said the Brigantine Police Department.MORE HEADLINES:Police are investigating the flyers as a "bias incident."Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 609-266-7414. 

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - A horror movie convention promoter says it is assisting authorities following charges against actor Gary Busey involving alleged sexual offenses at an event in New Jersey earlier this month.Busey, 78, was charged Friday with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, one count of attempted criminal sexual contact and one count of harassment following alleged actions Aug. 12-14 at the Monster Mania Convention at the Doubletree Hotel in the Philadelphia suburb of Cherry Hill, police said Saturday.Monster-Mania Convention said in a Facebook post that after attendees complained, an unspecified "celebrity guest was removed from the convention and instructed not to return.""Monster-Mania also encouraged the attendees to contact the police to file a report," the company said, adding that behavior that compromised the safety and well-being of attendees would not be tolerated.

CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. - A high school in South Jersey is implementing new safety procedures ahead of the 2022-23 school year.Pennsauken High School will begin using metal detector screenings and student searches to "keep our students, staff, and schools safe," according to an announcement by the school district.The district says all students and visitors will be required to undergo a screening when entering the school, including all athletic and extracurricular activities. Prohibited items, including weapons, drug paraphernalia, controlled substances and vaping devices, will be confiscated.

EAST GREENWICH TWP, N.J. - Officials in New Jersey will hold a public meeting Tuesday about a lingering concerns from a tractor-trailer gas leak that caused a foul odor to waft across several counties. East Greenwich Township in Gloucester County, New Jersey will hos the town hall meeting at their local municipal building at 6 p.m. The meeting will also stream online. Officials say experts will discuss concerns about the odor that was caused by a non-toxic chemical leak from a tractor-tralier parked at a rest stop off I-295 Wednesday night. Officials said a TransChem USA trailer was hauling 7,000 gallons of Lubrizol, a chemical additive to natural gas that contains Mercaptain.

SEA ISLE CITY, N.J. - One of the most popular beaches at the Jersey shore is cracking down on fishing for sharks from the beach. The new rules come weeks after viral video showed a fisherman reeling in and releasing a 7-foot sand tiger shark on the beach in Sea Isle City. Last week, the town barred shark fishing on or within 600 feet of their beaches.

  (FOX 29 Philadelphia)CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Officials in South Jersey say an incident involving food dye at a water treatment plant caused a local creek to run red, sparking confusion among residents Tuesday afternoon.The south branch of Pennsauken Creek, runs between two neighborhoods in Cherry Hill. Officials with the Evesham Municipal Utility Authority tell FOX 29's Chris O'Connell that red food dye was discharged from a nearby plant at some point.Officials say the dye is not hazardous and the Department of Environmental Protection has responded. Evesham Municipal Utility Authority says staff noticed that "the treated effluent being discharged at the Woodstream Waste Water Treatment Plant had a strange, bright red color" around 7 a.m.

NEW JERSEY - A Jersey City councilwoman has no plans to resign after allegedly smashing into a bicyclist in an intersection in an apparent hit-and-run accident.  Councilwoman Amy DeGise was cited for failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident after the incident at the intersection of Forrest Street and Martin Luther King Drive around 8 a.m.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. - A fatal shooting is under investigating after it ended with a car crashing into a home early Sunday morning.Police say the shooting happened around midnight on the 1100 block of East Elmer Road in Cumberland County.The victim died as a result of the shooting, according to police.A car also reportedly crashed into a home nearby where the shooting took place.The identity of the victim has to be released, and no information regarding a motive was given.The shooting is under investigation.
