According to a Facebook post for the Marshalltown Police Department, Officer David Danielson was patrolling a neighborhood roughly 53 miles north of Des Moines on May 20, when he collided with a child who was attempting to cross the street. In the dash-cam footage, Danielson can be seen driving past a white van which appeared to be an ice cream truck with a sign that says "stop for children." The child can then be seen entering the street in front of the van where he was struck by Danielson's vehicle. Police say the child was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries to his right foot and lower leg. Warning: The footage below may be triggering or disturbing for some. 'He wanted to end his life': Iowa officers rescue man about to jump off bridge

DES MOINES, Iowa - Two Iowa officers are being credited for saving a man's life after they saw he was about to jump off a bridge. Their dashcam recorded their heroic efforts. Des Moines Police said earlier this month, officers Destiny McGinnis and Tim Morgan were patrolling when they saw an SUV pulled over with its flashing lights on the side of the road going over the bridge. The officers saw two men standing were outside the vehicle. "We thought they were arguing," McGinnis said in a video news release. The second man grabbed the suicidal man's leg to try and pull him back over. "I think his shoe fell into the river when I pulled him over," McGinnis added. The officers held the man down until medics arrived. The man told officers he was upset that his mother had died a year ago, and he wanted to end his life. "I wanted to cry," McGinnis continued.

Prehistoric sabertooth skull found in Iowa likely last of species to walk Earth, researchers say

AMES, Iowa - A well-preserved sabertooth cat skull found in southwest Iowa may have been one of the last of the species to walk the planet as glaciers receded and temperatures rose, according to researchers.Radiocarbon dating indicates the male cat died at the end of the Ice Age between 13,605 and 13,460 years ago before getting buried in the East Nishnabotna River, according to Matthew Hil, an associate professor of archaeology at Iowa State and expert on animal bones. Hill analyzed the specimen along with David Easterla, professor emeritus of biology at Northwest Missouri State University.
