Officials: Atlantic City man found guilty of stalking, sending threatening messages to NJ judge

Nathaniel Russell, 59, of Atlantic City, New Jersey EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. - An Atlantic City man has been found guilty of stalking and threatening a New Jersey judge, officials say. After a three-day trial, a jury found Nathaniel Russell, 59, of Atlantic City, guilty of two counts of second-degree terroristic threats, one count of stalking and related charges, according to the municipal court. Authorities say from August 2021 to April 2022, Russell left violent and threatening messages for former Egg Harbor Township Municipal Court Judge Marc Nehmad. Fate of Cherry Hill farm uncertain as board nears vote on proposed senior-living complex

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Cherry Hill’s Zoning Board is expected to decide Thursday night if the Holly Ravine Farm in town should become a massive senior-living complex, a proposal which has sparked controversy.In the hustle and bustle of the busy South Jersey community, the 26-acre farm is an oasis; a patch of land from a time decades ago when Cherry Hill was agricultural. Now, there’s fear the farm will be lost if a proposed 175-unit senior complex is built.Eric Ascalon - a lawyer and longtime Cherry Hill resident - opposes the plan, and said that developing the land would mean "putting the nail in the coffin of a rich part of Cherry Hill’s history." A Texas company is behind the proposal that also includes a 200-space parking lot. South Jersey little league team implementing new rule to curb wild behavior from unruly parents

DEPTFORD, N.J. - As youth sports gets more competitive, parents across the country are taking things too far, causing teams to put a stop to wild behavior from unruly parents in the stands. The Deptford Little League has introduced a new rule to keep parents in line. The organization's President, Don Bozzuffi, Vice President, Jim McDevitt, and a parent, Dewey Hatton, joined Good Day Philadelphia to discuss the behavior they are looking to stop. Hatton said he's heard the use of expletives from irate parents in the stands, which has then influenced some children to use foul language on the field. McDevitt, who also serves as an umpire during games, says he has had parents heckle him about calls he's made. Bozzuffi says that while 99% of parents serve as positive reinforcements to the young team members, 1% make it difficult for everyone, especially when violence is involved. Residents of South Jersey town gather to oppose warehouse development project

OLDMANS TWP., N.J. - Residents in a South Jersey town packed a meeting Monday night to try and put a stop to a plan that would build more warehouses in Salem County.A company called Knightowl Holdings is trying to build nine new warehouses and two trailer lots that would cover over 500 acres of land along 295 in Oldmans Township.Signs across the area showcase how strongly residents oppose the warehouse development. Community members say they are concerned about two things: the amount of traffic these warehouses would bring and the environmental impact. "My family bought the property to raise our family in a quiet area, a safe area. Having to drive my kid to daycare or school or whatever and having to share the road with these massive tracker trailers isn’t really safe for anyone," said community member, Genevieve Sarlo. HORSHAM, Pa. - A Montgomery County family has been left in shambles after officials say an 11-year-old boy was killed by his own mother, who then tried to drive her car into the ocean at the Jersey Shore.Police were called to a house 500 block of Privet Road in Horsham Township Tuesday when a man said he discovered his son dead in the master bedroom.The boy's dad told police the 11-year-old had slept in bed with his mom the night prior, but the door was locked the next morning, and his wife's car was missing.Officials say an investigation revealed that the boy's mom, identified as 50-year-old Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead, killed her son as he slept in her bed.MORE HEADLINES:She then fled to Cape May and drove into the ocean until her car was inoperable. South Jersey woman sentenced for 2021 crash in Upper Merion that killed firefighter

UPPER MERION, Pa. - A South Jersey woman will spend at least a dozen years behind bars for her role in a crash that killed a firefighter in Lower Merion Township nearly two years ago. Jacquelyn Walker, 64, of Egg Harbor Township, pleaded guilty last fall to third-degree murder and other charges related to the July 2021 crash on the Schuylkill Expressway.Investigators say Walker drover her Jeep onto the shoulder of the expressway, crashing into a group of firefighters responding to a crash. Thomas Royd Firefighter Thomas Royds was killed and three other first responders were injured. "He died for us, so we'll go serve for him, and that's where we stand to this day," a former colleague of Royds told FOX 29.Toxicology reports confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the deadly crash.

Brave Escape: Kidnapped woman's year-long nightmare ends at South Jersey gas station

BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. - What began as an innocent act of kindness became one woman's fight for her life across the country in New Jersey's Burlington County.New Jersey State police say 57-year-old James Parillo met the victim in New Mexico last February when she agreed to drive him to Arizona.The suspect and victim then entered into a month-long relationship, which ended when he assaulted her in California."During their time together, the suspect allegedly took away the woman’s phone, confiscated and utilized her debit cards, and isolated her from her family," police said.The pair ended up renting a room at a house in New Gretna, New Jersey, where police say the woman was kidnapped, beaten and choked by the suspect.On February 7, the woman made her escape, running bare foot in 40-degree weather to a nearby gas station.MORE HEADLINES:A gas station attendant was sitting outside on break when she heard people screaming, and running around the corner."He was screaming you don't wanna do this, and then she got up to me, and she said I've been kidnapped, call 911," Jammie Garthaus said.The woman then ran inside and locked the deadbolt, an escape plan she told police she devised during a prior visit."She was saying that he choked her. The township says they are looking to possibly hire an outside company to do the work, putting some people who have more than 20 years of experience out of their jobs. Police launch investigations after shooting threats prompt lockdowns at several South Jersey schools

VINELAND, N.J. - Police departments in multiple southern New Jersey towns are investigating threats against schools that prompted lockdowns on Friday morning. In Toms River, police said they received a call regarding a "potential shooting" at Toms River North High School. Authorities say the school was locked down, but the call was later deemed to be an unfounded threat. Police are investigating it as a swatting incident, which occurs when a prank call is placed to draw a large police presence at a specified location. In Vineland, police say they are also investigating a threat. RELATED: 'A cry for help': Public safety officials, mental health experts weigh in on school threatsOfficers responded on scene and checked the school, saying no danger is present to the students and staff. Barnegat High School also received a threat Friday, according to police. Officials say officers responded to the building and found "no indications reports of anything occurring." Bengal Boulevard will remain closed as officers investigate. Surrounding schools in Barnegat were placed in a shelter-in-place status when the threat was reported. Schools in Barnegat are now under normal operations, but Stafford Township Schools have issued a shelter-in-place as a precaution. This is a developing story.

Former elementary school principal accused of peering into several South Jersey homes, police say

PHILADELPHIA - A former Pennsylvania elementary school principal is facing charges after police say he peered into the windows of several South Jersey homes and even tried to force a woman into her bedroom.Danny McEaddy was arrested in August after investigators believe he spent 7 months looking into windows of homes around Sicklerville. The Upper Darby School District confirmed to FOX 29 that McEaddy was the principal at Hillcrest Elementary school. Investigators from the Winslow Township Police Department say in February McEaddy entered a woman's home and tried to force her into her bedroom, but got away before police arrived. In May, police say he returned to the home and peered into the window. McEaddy was arrested in August when police say he was caught peering into a home in Pitman Borough.

Police say they are investigating a double shooting that killed one man after a shootout erupted after a three-car accident in North Philadelphia. PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured after a car accident turned into a deadly shootout during rush hour in North Philadelphia on Tuesday.At around 5:06 p.m., police say they responded to the 3600 block of Broad Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police say they located a 33-year-old man lying in the northbound lanes of Broad Street, suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. Police picked up the victim and took him to Temple Hospital where they say he was pronounced dead at 6:18 p.m.While investigating the scene, police say they also located a 38-year-old man who was suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

PHILADELPHIA - Meteorologist Kathy Orr went down to the Jersey Shore to check out the flooding and beach erosion after four days of battering waves. Luckily, forecasters say they are expecting the rain to slow down for the rest of the week. After a cold and rainy Tuesday, overnight temperatures will remain in the 40s and 50s. Scattered showers are expected on Wednesday, which forecasters are calling the "transition day," as the sun will break through the clouds, leading to a mild and dry Thursday. By the end of the week, temperatures will creep back up in to the 60s and 70s, giving the Lehigh Valley a break from lower-than-normal temperatures.
