Vehicles pelted with rocks, debris thrown from train overpass onto Philadelphia highway

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are investigating after motorists reported being pelted with rocks and other debris while driving down a Philadelphia highway on Tuesday night. A driver who asked to remain anonymous told FOX 29 that he was driving on I-76 eastbound near the Passyunk and Oregon Avenue exit around 7 p.m. when his car was struck by a large rock. He described the sound of the rock shattering his windshield as an "explosion" that sent glass fragments scattered across the inside of his brand-new car. "When the car got his I thought I got shot, the car got shot, that's how much of an explosion it was," he said. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe unnamed driver pulled his vehicle to the side of the road where several other cars had stopped after also being struck by thrown debris."There was a guy about 5-10 cars up from me that said a rock had gone through the windshield and struck a woman in the face that she needed emergency services," he said. Another driver who was in the shoulder of the highway claimed that her car was struck by a fire extinguisher, according to the anonymous driver. Officers from the Delaware River Port Authority said one person was throwing debris from the CSX Railroad overpass, but they ran away before police arrived. Dozens of cars were damaged when police say someone hurled rocks and other debris onto a busy Philadelphia highway.

During some of the worst times of his struggle, he says he was facing eviction and having thoughts of suicide. The couple decided to speak out because addiction is more common than most people think. Flash flood warning issued for parts of Philadelphia, suburbs amid heavy downpours all day

PHILADELPHIA - Most of the Delaware Valley can expect to see heavy downpours and flooding Tuesday after a mostly pleasant Labor Day weekend. FOX 29's Sue Serio says the rain will move into the Philadelphia area during the hours of the morning commute and will linger into the evening.A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for parts of Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs, including Delaware, Montgomery and Chester counties, until 11 a.m. Dangerous flooding is possible, according to the National Weather Service.By 10:00 p.m., showers will still linger in the area, but they will be spotty. Rain will continue in the forecast Wednesday, with showers expected all day. Parts of the area could see between one to two inches of rain per hour, which is needed desperately due to drought conditions. Community rallies behind husband, father badly hurt in wave accident at Delaware beach

PHILADELPHIA - A local man faces a long road to recovery after he was badly injured in a boogie boarding accident while vacationing on the Delaware beach. Barry Fragale, a husband and father of two, said he was on a boogie board in the water off Bethany Beach when a wave came crashing down on top of him. "I never should have done it," Barry told FOX 29's Dawn Timmeny. "I heard my neck snap, and I never lost consciousness."Barry's 13-year-old daughter was in the water when the freak accident happened and his wife was on the beach. PHILADELPHIA - As criminals continue to target catalytic converters in cities and suburbs across the country, mechanics who see the costly damage first-hand shared what models are most commonly picked on. Catalytic converters are part of a vehicle's exhaust system that helps filter out pollutants. They're found on the underside of the car and can be removed within minutes with a metal-cutting tool. Criminals target catalytic converters because they contain expensive precious metals like rhodium, platinum and palladium. Thieves can expect to get anywhere from $50 to $300 if they sell the converters to scrapyards, which then sell them to recycling facilities to reclaim the precious metals inside.Police in a Philadelphia suburb warned residents of catalytic converter thefts.
