The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said on April 6, a woman was with her dog at the local home improvement store in Evergreen. The woman had asked the customer to give her dog a treat in an effort to train the animal. Deputies said the customer agreed and gave the dog a treat, but the dog then bit the customer in the face. "The victim sustained serious injuries and requires facial surgery as a result of the bite," authorities said in a Facebook post. AURORA, Colo. - The Aurora Police Department arrested two suspects this week after finding a missing man covered in concrete inside a home's crawlspace, officials announced.Casie Bock, a 29-year-old woman who lived in the home, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with accessory to homicide.Haskel Leroy Crawford, a 38-year-old man who was already facing homicide charges in nearby Jefferson County in an unrelated case, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Thursday. Police originally received a tip on Monday that a 36-year-old man who has been missing since last summer was murdered inside a condo in the Denver suburb of Aurora. DREXEL HILL, Pa. - Crozer Hospital in Delaware County will lay off more than 200 employees amid what hospital leaders call "growing financial pressures on hospitals and health systems." Crozer, located in Drexel Hill, closed its emergency room last year and claims It's still losing millions of dollars each month. As other hospitals and healthcare systems wade through treacherous waters to stay afloat, local leaders and concerned residents are wondering why Crozer can't also shoulder the burden. "They have consistently made poor financial decisions, and then these latest layoffs are really just another example of how they are unable to operate a functioning hospital system," Francis Sheehan of Foundation for Delaware County said. Sheehan asserts that nearby non-profit hospital chains are managing to get by with under massive oversight, but Crozer - which is under practically no oversight - is struggling. "It doesn't make any sense, because in the case of a not-for-profit system like Penn or CHOP or Jefferson or Main Line, do you have a community board over seeing things," Sheehan said. "You have to disclose your financial operation in engage the community in your work."Meanwhile, Crozer is laying off roughly 4% of its workforce under newly announced restructuring plans.

Squirrel tests positive for bubonic plague in Colorado

MORRISON, Colo. - A squirrel has tested positive for the bubonic plague in Colorado.According to health officials, the squirrel is the first case of plague in The Town of Morrison, Jefferson County, which is about 17 miles southwest of Denver.“Plague is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis, and can be contracted by humans and household animals,” public health officials wrote. However, if proper precautions are taken, the risk of getting plague is “extremely low,” they said.Humans can get infected through bites from infected fleas or animals."Cats are highly susceptible to plague and may die if not treated promptly with antibiotics.
