A notorious acid bath killer has been released from a maximum security prison due to fears he'll catch coronavirus. The decision to release the Sicilian Mafia killer, who was servicing life for murdering and dissolving a rival’s teen son in a barrel of acid, has sparked outrage in Italy.

Elderly Cosa Nostra mobster Cataldo Franco, 85, was released on April 28 from the prison on the outskirts of Milan and has been allowed to return to his hometown of Geraci Siculo in Sicily.

Local media reports his release was part of government measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among the prison population.
