Narendra Damodardas Modi (born 17 September 1950) is an Indian politician serving as the 14th and current Prime Minister of India since 2014. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi. Modi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He is the first prime minister outside of the Indian National Congress to win two consecutive terms with a full majority and the second to complete five years in office after Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
India's small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which is among the worst-hit sectors amid the covid-19 crisis, hopes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ₹20 lakh crore economic relief package would revive liquidity, bringing the sector back to life.
Though the details of the economic package are due to be announced later on Wednesday, the measures are likely to focus on micro and small industries and medium enterprises, according to industry and government officials. "I broadly appreciate the stimulus as we have no choice but to restart the economy.
If the stimulus could be directed to revive 'Make in India' and 'Tech in India' in a sustainable way, it would be transformative.
