The Government will pay for two thirds of workers' salary for businesses who have to cut their hours because of the Covid-19 crisis.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak said he wouldn't extend the furlough scheme, but announced a new 'Jobs Support Scheme' - which will directly support the wages of employees in "viable jobs".
He said it would give businesses the option of keeping people in work on shorter hours - at least a third of their normal hours - and be paid for that work by their employer.
The government will cover the remaining two thirds of their normal wage. And the grant scheme for self-employed workers will be extended.
