Nissan won't reopen Sunderland plant until June as staff remain furloughed

Nissan will keep its Sunderland plant closed for at least another month, the carmaker has said. Until then, the majority of employees will remain furloughed, with Nissan saying Government support was key to being able to do that. "Vehicle production at Nissan Sunderland Plant has been suspended since 17th March.

This suspension will now continue throughout May," Nissan said in a statement. "We are currently planning a phased resumption of production in early June." Nissan said it's aiming to keep its core business alive during the coronavirus outbreak to let it come back strong after lockdown ends.
