This is the moment a suspect is tackled to the floor by a police officer after he broke free from the back of an ambulance and made a dash for freedom.

The man was under arrest at the time and remained in custody on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police said in an update. The bizarre scenes played out on Whitworth Road in Rochdale on Thursday.

The video footage - posted up to X, formerly Twitter, by GMP's traffic unit, shows the ambulance in the distance and it's rear doors suddenly opening.
