Get the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter.Thieves have been cashing in on an upsurge in cycling during the Covid-19 pandemic.Police in North Lanarkshire say that, while more folk have been taking to the saddle, there’s been a rise in thefts.Over a five-month period from the beginning of lockdown, 108 bikes were stolen across the area.Lizanne McMurrich, North Lanarkshire Council’s head of communities, said: “More people are using pedal cycles for commuting, exercise and recreation and people are staying local for holidays, taking their bikes with them.“Unfortunately, this means that there are more bikes out there that can become a target for crime.”A series of security marking events is taking.
