NPHET to meet to review Covid-19 transmissions since restrictions lifted

The National Public Health Emergency Team will meet today to review the data on the transmission of Covid-19 here. It will also hear details on the 'R' (Reproductive) number and the impact of Phase 3 lifting of restrictions 11 days ago.

The R number is the number of people, on average, that one infected person will pass the virus on to. The last R number was between 0.6 and close to 1.

Any move to 1 or beyond 1 would not be welcome. Experts will be keen to see what impact there has been on virus trends, since the lifting of all travel restrictions in the State, the opening of restaurants and pubs operating as restaurants, crèches opening, limited mass indoor and outdoor gatherings permitted and many businesses like hairdressers reopened.
