The number of people being treated for COVID-19 in hospital fell to 209 last night, the lowest level for 100 days. 53 patients were being treated in Intensive Care.
The National Public Health Emergency Team said rates of infection were either stable or decreasing. The Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Ronan Glynn, has said the public is continuing to display a high level of responsibility and that it was amazing to see that the level of close contacts among those testing positive for the virus had not increased since the middle of February.
Dr Glynn said this indicated the public was sticking to the public health guidance even though they could not wait to be done with it.
