The number of people testing positive for Covid in England has fallen for the first time in almost three months. A total of 189,232 people tested positive for the virus at least once in the week to July 28.
The figure is down 39% on the previous week, and is the first week-on-week fall since the beginning of May. The latest Test and Trace figures also showed that the percentage of people getting their test result within 24 hours has risen, to 89.3% from 63.7% in the previous week.
The proportion of people not reached by the scheme - meaning they could not be asked to provide details of recent close contacts - was 13.9%, the second highest percentage not reached since October 2020.
