COVID-19 fatalities, the highest-ever in a single day, pushing the toll to 4,248, while 2,803 new cases raised the tally to 9,24,699, a health department official said.
Nine fatalities were reported from Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, five each from Ganjam, Kalahandi and Puri, four from Kendrapara and two each from Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj.
One person each succumbed to the infection in Bhadrak, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Sambalpur.
Taking to Twitter, the health department said, "Regret to inform the demise of fifty two Covid positive patients while under treatment in hospitals." This apart, 53 other COVID-19 patients in the state have also died due to comorbidities.
