Omicron concern in Ayrshire as cases of coronavirus variant could rise 'significantly' across Scotland

An MSP has shared her concern after the Omicron variant of coronavirus was discovered in Ayrshire.Ayr, Prestwick and Troon MSP Siobhian Brown is monitoring the spread of the new variant of COVID-19 after one case was identified in NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

Ms Brown who is convenor of the COVID-19 Recovery Committee at the Scottish Parliament called for an urgent briefing with health advisers last week who revealed they were "very concerned" in relation to the new fast spreading variant.The SNP politician says she was "not surprised" to see the Omicron variant had hit Ayrshire with community transmission of the variant now occurring across Scotland.Yesterday one case of Omicron was confirmed by the Scottish Government in the local health board.
