HSE examining ways to offer boosters to people aged 40-49 by next weekend

The Health Service Executive is examining ways in which the roll-out of the booster vaccination programme could be extended to people aged 40 to 49 by the end of next week.

An updated plan will be published in the coming days. People aged over 50 are continuing to get the booster dose by appointment and at walk-in vaccination centres around the country.

There have been lengthy queues at the centres and some people were turned away yesterday. Indications from Government yesterday suggested that it is more than likely that boosters will begin to be made available to the 40 to 49 age cohort by the end of next week.

It would mean that people in this age group could get a booster if it is at least five months since they got a second vaccine
